2018 Distinguished Alumni Award

The Blair Community Schools Foundation is pleased to announce the recipient of the 2018 Distinguished Alumni Award, Lieutenant Colonel Jason Combs!


Lieutenant Colonel Jason Combs

​This years Distinguished Alumni award goes to a recipient who has demonstrated great leadership and remarkable success since his graduation from Blair High School.


After his time in Blair, he went on to complete his Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology at the United States Air Force Academy. He then served as a B-1 Lancer Pilot and Instructor Pilot/Evaluator, B-1 Wing Weapons Officer, B-1 Formal Training Unit Flight Instructor, Chief of Safety, Director of Staff, and Squadron Commander.

During this time, he completed two additional Master's Degrees in Military Arts and Science and Airpower and Science. He has over 2,000 flight hours with 400 hours of combat in his time in the Air Force, including tours in Operation Enduring Freedom.

In 2013, he was a National Defense Fellow at the Center for a New American Security. His honors and awards include the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, among other prestigious medals for his years of service. Lieutenant Colonel Combs retired from the Air Force in 2017.

Lieutenant Colonel Combs, his Wife Resa, and his children Michael and Rebekah are in the process of moving back from the Washington, D.C. area to Rapid City, SD.
